We have put together 10 common curling mistakes we all make.
First things first, you should never style your hair without a good heat protectant. A special technology creates a protective layer around the hair which distributes the heat more evenly and protects your hair from burns, split ends and breakage.
Your hair should be 100% dry before you apply direct heat. If you use a curling iron on damp or even wet hair, burns can occur more easily because there is still a lot of moisture inside the hair strands.
Start with setting the temperature a little lower (e.g. 150 ° C) and see how your hair reacts and whether you are satisfied with the result. If the heat is too low, the curl can appear a bit "frizzy". Please be especially careful if you have fine, permed or colour-treated hair or extensions. If you are unsure, your hairdresser will be happy to assist.
Not all curling irons are the same. If you have short hair or desire small, defined curls, choose a curling iron with a smaller diameter. For voluminous waves or longer hair, we recommend a slightly larger diameter. Here is an easy guide for you:
13 mm diameter = small curls,
20 - 25 mm diameter = voluminous curls
from 30 mm diameter = beach waves
Do not wrap too much hair around the curling iron. This will prevent the heat from being distributed evenly. Try out different options and just see which result you are satisfied with.
It's best to always wrap your hair around the curling iron instead of twisting it. Try alternating the direction of your curling iron. This will ensure a nicer, more relaxed result and an extra portion of volume. Please make sure your hair isn’t exposed to the heat for too long.
When buying a curling iron, you want to make sure that it is of good quality and that it has a proper coating. A metal rod will conjure up a nice curl, but excessive and uneven heat can cause enormous damage to your hair. Curling irons with ceramic or Teflon coating are not only particularly gentle on the hair, they also distribute the heat evenly.
As beautiful as the freshly conjured curl may look - hands off! Always let it cool down properly because it will help your style last longer! The same applies to brushing. Just wait a moment and freshen up your make-up in the meantime.
In order to keep your curls for a long time, you should definitely use hairspray to fix them. Our Flexible Control Hairspray gives you great hold without sticking or weighing your hair down.
You need to clean your curling iron regularly, preferably after each use to avoid that residue building up. It does not only damage your hair but also the coating of your curling iron. Simply use a damp cloth and wipe down.
Be a queen crowned in your curls. ♡
